Care & Use – Copper Tri-Ply

The Copper Tri-Ply pans are suitable for all hob types except induction.

Cleaning the pans

We have a step by step guide to cleaning your copper pans here. General information below.

After cooking you will need to wait until the pan has cooled down before cleaning. Use a standard detergent and a soft cloth, do not use abrasive cleaners. For stubborn food residues soak the pan in warm soapy water until the marks can be removed with a soft cloth. These pans can be washed in the dishwasher but exposure to the dishwasher powder will accelerate changes in colour of the copper.

The copper exterior will naturally change colour over time (see ‘copper tarnishing’ section below). You can purchase copper cleaners which will help restore the colour of the pan. On the pans with the exposed stainless steel interior (the mini-pan & the 16, 18, 20cm saucepans), the stainless steel can discolour slightly if overheated. This ‘heat bloom’ is a bluish colour which can be cleaned away using a stainless steel cleaner.

Changes in colour of either the copper or the stainless steel will not affect the performance or service life of the pans.

Using the pans

Wash before first use.

In use the pans should be positioned centrally over the heat source. The heat ring used should be no larger than the size of the pan. Do not allow the heat source to extend beyond the base of the pan; allowing the heat source to extend beyond the base of the pan will cause handles to become very hot and waste energy. For safety, keep the handles away from the burners and cooker edge. Use of the lids when cooking will help conserve energy.

To prolong the life of the pans we recommend using wooden or plastic utensils to prevent scratching of the internal surfaces.

Never heat up empty pans or let them boil dry as overheating a pan can damage it. In the event that the pans become overheated do not remove them from the hob. Switch off the hob and allow the pans to cool before removing.

The pans should never be shaken or dragged across a hob top or any other surface as this can cause damage to the pan and the hob top.

Our Copper Tri-Ply and Stainless Steel Tri-Ply Cookware ranges are oven safe to 250°C/480°F/gas mark 9. Our Copper Base Cookware range is oven safe to 200°C/390°F/gas mark 6. Please exercise caution when using our pans in the oven; the cast stainless steel handles retain heat for a long period and the use of oven gloves is essential. For pans with non-stick coating we recommend that these only be used in the oven up to 200°C/390°F/gas mark 6.

For more information about caring for your non-stick pans, see our blog ‘How to use and care for your non-stick pans’.

WARNINGS: Use protection such as oven gloves when lifting the lids or the handles as these can get hot during use.

Tarnishing

The stunning copper exterior of the pans will naturally change colour over time developing into an antique penny brown colour, which will only add to the charm of this classic cookware range. Here are the effects that you can expect from exposure to finger marks, heat and liquids. Tarnishing does not affect the performance of the cookware in use.

Copper cleaning products are available which will help to restore the colour of the pans.
